The Holy Spirit Guides Us

Before the Holy Spirit came to indwell servants of Christ, a system of lots was used to determine God’s will in many situations.  In fact, just before the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), the disciples chose someone to replace Judas Iscariot, who had betrayed Christ.  They used the system of casting lots to make the choice (Acts 1:23-26).

After the day of Pentecost, a distinct difference exists in the way followers of Christ operated to make choices.  When a decision was made by some to send Paul and Barnabas out to declare the gospel, the Holy Spirit directed them specifically to do so; He spoke to them (Acts 13:2).  And when Paul and Barnabas, in turn, traveled to Cyprus they were “sent out by the Holy Spirit” (Acts 13:4).

If you are facing a difficult decision in your life, the first step is to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  He will speak to you and move to open and close doors on your behalf.  He is God’s GPS system implanted right inside of you.  Always there and always available for you to call upon as you travel through life’s winding road of choices.  He will ensure you travel the path God has for you, if you will follow His direction.

John 16:13,14 – However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

Reflection:

  • How awesome is it the Holy Spirit, who indwells us, give us personal direction in our lives?
  • Have you ever faced a decision where the Holy Spirit directed you through speaking to you? What about the opening and closing of doors?
  • Are you facing a tough decision right now?  I challenge you to stop what you are doing and seek His guidance for your life.
