The Holy Spirit: His Conferred Authority

After the healing of the lame man in Acts 3 and the message of salvation Peter preaches to the crowd, the religious leaders are not happy. They cannot deny a miracle has taken place, yet they don’t want to acknowledge Jesus Christ, whom they crucified, had anything to do with it. They take Peter and John into custody in an effort to intimate them into silence. Following the verbal exchange between the two apostles and the religious elite an interesting observation is recorded by Luke. He writes in Acts 4:13, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”  The Holy Spirit conferred upon Peter and John a supernatural boldness and authority to stand up and present the truth of Christ to the educated elite in spite of any fear or sense of inferiority.
