The Holy Spirit: Be Obedient In All Things
As we conclude Acts chapter eight, we find Philip has been instructed by God to travel into the desert. The Holy Spirit does not provide him with any additional details. Imagine you are Philip for a moment and the Holy Spirit has been moving mightily. The sick are being healed, people delivered, and many added to the church, but then God instructs you to leave.  He asks you to walk away from the excitement, the miracles, the church He used you to begin and travel to the desert. Would you go? Would you be obedient?

    The Holy Spirit: Beware Counterfeits
As we continue into Acts chapter eight, we find Philip has traveled to Samaria and is preaching the gospel. Along with presenting the message of salvation, the Holy Spirit is using Philip to perform signs and wonders. Here, we find a man named Simon who was also a sorcerer. He was intrigued by the signs and message of Philip, but more importantly, he sees the crowd that once called him "the great power of God" leaving to follow another. In this message we look at the need to be aware of those seeking influence instead of Christ.

The Holy Spirit: Do Not Resist Him
When Stephen is brought before the religious leaders and falsely accused of blasphemy, he gives a message they could not ignore. He began with Abraham and explained as he went how Israel had a history of rejecting those whom God sent as His servants. He stresses the rejection of Moses, the abuse of the prophets, and finally the betrayal and murder of Christ. Stating in Acts 7:51, "You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you."  In this message we look at the response of his accusers and its application to our lives today.

    The Holy Spirit: Serving Together
In Acts chapter six, division has entered the church and the apostles can no longer handle the load all by themselves. They needed help with this church of over 20,000 people. The apostles seek the direction of the Holy Spirit and He guides them to recruit leaders to help serve the people. Each church needs people willing to serve together. The burden is too great, the mission too large, and the message too important.

The Holy Spirit: Beyond The Suffering
In Acts chapter five, the apostles are arrested. The religious leaders threatened them, but when it was clear threats would not stop them, they had the apostles given 39 lashes by the Romans and released. The response of the apostles was a testimony to those who witnessed first hand and it is a testimony to you and I today.  "So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name" (Acts 5:41).
