The Bible clearly teaches us in Romans chapter six that who we obey is who we belong to.  If we serve our own selfish desires we belong to sin.  If we are obedient to Christ we belong to God.  Sin gives us the illusion of freedom that, when acted upon, leads to the bondage of fear, doubt, and anxiety. God guarantees us eternal life, but we must understand we were bought at a very high price; the sacrifice of Jesus.  When we belong to God, we are free from our past, free to change, free to live holy, and free of the bondage caused  by sin.  We are not free, however, to live in rebelliousness towards God, to live selfishly, or to mistreat others.
