Simple Belief or Saving Faith
Series: general
A simple belief God exists is not saving faith. Romans 10:9 and 10 defines saving faith as belief leading to repentance, which results in submission of our lives to Jesus Christ as Lord.  If we do not submit our lives to Jesus Christ as Lord, we cannot be saved.

The reason these rewards are so elusive is because we are striving for them apart from the one who created us. If we want true peace, permanent happiness, and fulfillment they can only be found in God and His Son Jesus Christ.

    Our Motivation To Worship
    Series: general
On Palm Sunday so many years ago, we see a crowd gathered to “worship’ Jesus as King.  They waved palm branches and laid their cloaks in the street for the donkey to cross over.  These were merely outward expressions they thought they had to do, to get the King to do what they wanted Him to do. In contrast, Mary anoints the head and feet of Jesus days earlier in an act of devoted, humble, and sacrificial worship.  In this message we contrast these two events and ask ourselves, “What is our motivation to worship?”

    What’s Your Source?

The Ripple Effect Christian BackgroundIn Jeremiah 2:13, the prophet compares the rejection of God by the people of Israel to them choosing a cistern over the fresh watered offered by God.  For those who lived in arid regions and were not blessed with a fresh spring on their land, they were required to dig a hole in the ground and to seal the walls of the hole with lime. Water was then transported to the hole or cistern to be stored for use at a later time.  Unfortunately, these crude storage containers would develop cracks over time and the water would leak out into the surrounding soil. As a result, the water would be lost and the walls would have to be sealed again and the cistern refilled.
Have we, like the people of Israel, chosen to abandon our relationship with God for personal pursuits of happiness that are not eternal. Pursuits that bring temporary moments of happiness, but eventually crack and run dry.
We must ask ourselves, "Are you digging cisterns or drinking directly from the spring?"

    Bought At A Price
    Series: general
Morning Devotions Christian Stock ImageThe Bible clearly teaches us in Romans chapter six that who we obey is who we belong to.  If we serve our own selfish desires we belong to sin.  If we are obedient to Christ we belong to God.  Sin gives us the illusion of freedom that, when acted upon, leads to the bondage of fear, doubt, and anxiety. God guarantees us eternal life, but we must understand we were bought at a very high price; the sacrifice of Jesus.  When we belong to God, we are free from our past, free to change, free to live holy, and free of the bondage caused  by sin.  We are not free, however, to live in rebelliousness towards God, to live selfishly, or to mistreat others.
