    Know Your Identity
The first few chapters of 1 Chronicles is a list of genealogies.  One name after another without any particular attention paid to individuals.  Amidst the names of chapter four, a break appears in verses nine and ten to describe a man named Jabez.  This was a man whose identity from birth had been declared as one who would cause pain.  Jabez did not accept this identity and asked God to orchestrate his life so that he would walk in a different destiny.  Like Jabez, walking in our destiny begins with discarding the identity thrust upon us  by others and accepting the identity God has for us.

This message is the first in our advent series for Christmas entitled, "The Call of Christmas."  Today we look at the lives of Zacharias and Elizabeth and the circumstances surrounding God breaking His silence of 400 years to speak to Zacharias through the angel Gabriel.  Through this story we learn:
    1. God never forgets His promises no matter how long He appears silent
    2. God demonstrates His grace and mercy not just through the large scale of eternity, but also to individuals
    3. God sent John to prepare the way for the long awaited and sought after Messiah
