God’s Masterpiece

I loved to draw when I was a kid.  I would spend hours drawing pictures and then coloring them.  I would stand before the refrigerator and gaze at the beauty of my work, believing I had created a masterpiece worthy of being displayed in the greatest art galleries of the world.  Of course, my picture of a dog frolicking in a grassy meadow looked more like a tumble weed with ears in a green swamp.  Needless to say, I laid down my crayons, colored pencils, and paintbrushes and never looked back.

Was it the fault of the material?  Were my Safeway brand crayons and paper to blame?  Absolutely not!  I had friends who could use the same materials and make beautiful art.  They could take each color and produce a bowl of fruit that looked good enough to eat.  They would draw cars that looked like you could drive them off the page.  Why? They knew how to use them!

God made you and knows how to use you (Jeremiah 1:5; Jeremiah 29:11).  He knows every color on your palette that makes you who you are (Psalm 139:1-4).  God can use every talent, every quirk, and every passion inside of you to create a masterpiece worthy of being shown to the world (Psalm 139:16)!  His purpose for you realized in a way only He can see and bring into being.

Reflection:

  • Have you ever thought of yourself as a potential masterpiece? Why or why not?
  • Why is God the only one qualified to ensure you accomplish His purpose for you?
  • Have you ever thought about what colors make up your pallet? What are your talents? What are you passionate about?
